Managing Partner

For more than two decades, Brenda has helped law firms and professional service organizations raise their visibility, build business, and showcase high-profile cases and projects through strategic public relations across traditional and digital media. Her client roster has included firms of all sizes as well as CPAs, accountants, expert witnesses, legal service providers, nonprofits, wealth managers, real estate brokers, and even an astronaut.

Brenda founded McGann Public Relations, which merged in 2017 with Los Angeles–based Newsroom Public Relations, where she helped expand the agency’s national footprint. She joined Zumado Public Relations in 2021 and became Managing Partner in 2024.

Earlier in her career, Brenda spent nearly a decade as an editor at the Los Angeles Daily Journal, overseeing the editorial page and practitioner content for California’s leading legal daily newspaper, along with its monthly supplements and five weekly legal and commercial real estate publications.

Beyond client work, Brenda organized the popular Los Angeles “Winedown” business networking events, hosted by WeWork and sponsored by major professional firms. She also serves on the editorial board of Marketing the Law Firm, an American Lawyer Media publication, and was named a 2024 and 2025 Lawdragon 100 Global Leader in Legal Strategy Consulting. She is a graduate of Loyola Law School and a member of the State Bar of California.

AUBREY BARRETT

MEDIA RELATIONS CONSULTANT

Armed with her Juris Doctor, Aubrey Barrett brings over a decade of legal industry experience to her role as a Consultant at Zumado PR, where she helps law firms enhance their market presence and achieve sustainable growth.

Leveraging her law degree and marketing and business development roles at Hanson Bridgett LLP and Greenberg Traurig, LLP, Aubrey specializes in positioning attorneys as thought leaders through strategic media, PR, and business development services. Partnering with Zumado, she connects firms with journalists to showcase strengths, crafts tailored PR strategies, and guides attorneys in personal branding and media engagement. Aubrey’s approach maximizes visibility, deepens client relationships, and empowers firms to expand into new markets while establishing themselves as industry leaders.

Aubrey also emphasizes helping attorneys strengthen their role as trusted advisors, ensuring that their expertise is communicated in ways that resonate with clients, the media, and the market. With a forward-looking approach, she incorporates the effective use of AI tools and SEO optimization to elevate visibility, ensuring firms stay competitive in today’s digital-first legal landscape.

A graduate of Villanova University School of Law, Aubrey joined Zumado in 2024 after collaborating with the team to expand her previous firm’s market presence and elevate its rising attorneys.

Senior Client Manager

As Senior Client Manager, Lauren oversees day-to-day correspondence and media relations for Zumado’s professional services clients, including leading accountants, wealth managers, law firms, and legal tech vendors. She serves as a key liaison between clients and the media—arranging interviews, coordinating press releases and pitches, managing follow-ups, and ensuring contributed content is delivered on time.

A skilled writer and editor, Lauren also contributes to Zumado’s writing team, crafting compelling media outreach and thought leadership content. She joined the firm in 2018 after graduating summa cum laude from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with dual degrees: a B.A. in English (Writing Studies) and a B.S. in Communications Media.

Outside of work, Lauren is passionate about dogs, collecting vintage and antique furniture, reading gothic horror novels, and cheering on her Philadelphia sports teams.

Nick Gaffney

Nicholas Gaffney

Founder

Nick’s public relations career spans two decades, during which he has successfully helped launch, manage and bolster a variety of media-related businesses. Before founding Zumado in 2014, Nick directed the San Francisco office of award-winning professional services boutique Infinite Global. His previous roles included heading the Professional Services Practice at Magnet Communications and co-founding the national crisis communications firm Levick. A recognized expert in professional services marketing, he was named one of the world’s top 100 consultants and strategists by a prominent media company in 2020 and 2019. 

Described by The Wall Street Journal as a “marketing guru” and featured in both The New York Times and on NPR’s Marketplace, Nick is frequently sought out for his expertise by the media as well as by clients. He serves on the editorial board of American Bar Association publication Law Practice Today and is a member of the ABA’s Law Practice Management Division Board.

Prior to entering the field of public relations, Nick worked as a journalist and in various capacities for American Lawyer Media. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Providence College and a law degree from Case Western Reserve School of Law.
